Buying at de Veres

Catalogue: We produce a fully illustrated colour catalogue, complete with biographical notes, approximately 2 weeks prior to auction. It is available from our office and can also be downloaded from our website here. We do not charge for our catalogues.

Viewing: The paintings are available to view in optimum Gallery conditions three days prior to the auction, up until 4pm on the day of the sale. For specific viewing times please see our auction calendar.

Auction: Our auctions take place at 6pm. Each lot is offered under the hammer in numerical order, with an illustration simultaneously viewed on screen. We sell approximately 80-100 lots per hour.

Bidding: Each bidder physically attending the auction must register for a paddle number, available on the night.

Absentee bidding: If unable to attend the auction the following options apply:

  • Written Bid: You must complete an absentee bidding form, indicating the lot number, artist and the maximum bid (exclusive of commission). A member of staff will then bid on your behalf, endeavouring to secure the lot at the lowest possible price. There is no additional charge for this service.
  • Telephone bid: You can reserve a telephone line for the night of the sale. A member of staff will then call you shortly before the lot(s) is offered, enabling you to bid live at the auction. There is no additional charge for this service.
  • Live bidding online: You can now bid live online through thesaleroom.com. There is a 3% additional charge for this service (independent of de Veres). Pre-register here https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/my-account/register

Buyers Premium: 19 ½% plus VAT on each lot.

Payment: Cash, cheque or bank draft. We also accept laser and credit card. Please note there is a surcharge of 3% applied to Visa and Mastercard transactions. Purchasers can also arrange a bank transfer to the following account details.

Collection: Purchases are available for collection once an account has been paid for. If delivery is required we have a number of carriers we can recommend. Please talk to a member of staff for further information. Anything uncollected within a week of the sale date may be subject to additional storage costs.

Selling at de Veres

A work of art only has one chance to make a first and lasting impression and we have developed a deep understanding of what helps a painting achieve its maximum value. Therefore, the manner in which it is catalogued, marketed and presented is the most important thing.

  • Our catalogues are produced to a very a high quality. Each lot is fully illustrated along with detailed biographical notes.
  • In today’s market the accurate valuation of artwork is very important and we have maintained a sales percentage of 75%
  • Our Viewing presentation is second to none, which we maintain to Gallery standard.
  • We advise clients on whether or not reframing and/or cleaning of paintings would benefit the sale. We have experienced experts available to carry out any work required.

Vendor terms: We charge a vendor fee of 10% (plus vat) for works sold. We are the only Irish auction house that does not charge clients any additional fee for insurance, photography, storage, etc. Also, there is no charge to the vendor if a work fails to sell.

Valuations: We are happy to visit, by appointment, any potential client and offer our opinion and advice on auction values, at no charge. Equally we conduct valuations from our offices at 35 Kildare Street, Dublin 2. Alternatively you can email images and descriptions to info@deveres.ie and we will come back to you with our opinion and valuation. There is no charge for this service.

Delivery: We can arrange the delivery/shipping of any artwork from anywhere in the world. Each work is fully insured in transit under our insurance policy.

Storage: We have a fulltime storage facility, with 24 hour security. This enables us to receive works and store them until a suitable auction is available.
